Just think of the friendship!!! Root and Alex become friends, they both understand devotion and sacrifice, doing everything necessary, the feeling of hopelesness, of not being enough, of suddenly being cared for which is soo damn new for them!. Not to mention the nerd factor.
Which also makes Shaw and Maggie meet and they become kinda friends too. They would just sit in silence, with glasses of scotch, ‘cause they both get it, the need for silence, the silent comradeship and understanding, and when they do talk it’s just blunt with no filters. Usually, they talk about guns. lol
BUT it doesn’t stop there! ‘Cause Root and Maggie, holy shit, imagine those two litle shits becoming friends! Teasing their girls, being sarcastic and teasing Kara about her obvious crush on a certain raven-haired CEO. But also bonding over their pasts, coming from small towns, being different and parentless, facing their own demons and suddenly finding themselves in these relationships with these incredible women (relationships neither of them thought they were good enough for).
AND there’s more… Alex and Shaw bonding: over the duty of being soldiers, of facing against evil organizations, to sacrifice it all including their lives for their mission. Of having worked their asses off to be the best at what they do (specially in male-dominated fields) and the fact they both wanted to be doctors. Their love for guns and sparring, too. (just imagine Alex being like, “I’m taking down Cadmus for good. You in?” And Shaw would be like, “do I get to shoot the fuckers and blow shit up?” and Alex, “have you met me? Backpack’s filled with explosives” ……and Cadmus never stood a chance)
I know that some may think the characters are too different and shit. But that’s the beauty of their friendship. On paper, the friendship between the two couples shouldn’t be possible, shouldn’t work….but it does! ‘Cause underneath the shallow characteristics and all, they’re actually pretty similar. Different contexts, different lives, but they share that understanding.
